The fundamental theme of my work is the wonder of small, everyday things. This theme has led me to the Dutch Baroque painters, who have become one of my main inspirations. I love their portrayals of small items in fine detail, concentration on extremes of light and dark, precise mathematical construction of images, and above all their concern with seeing and portraying the world rather than imposing ideas on it.
For example, I will present simple objects like fruit or tableware in almost monumental terms, in arrangements suggesting landscapes. So, a few apricots scattered on a rumpled tablecloth can echo boulders on a beach or a silver bowl of peaches can appear as a monument to fruit. The micro and the macro are ultimately seen to be one.

Artist: The Art of Dean Rocky Barrick
I live about an hour north of Seattle on wooded acreage where I'm surrounded by wildlife. Most of my work is created in my home studio after extensive field trips when I gather reference material thru sketching, photography and collecting background material. I have personally exhibited my artwork extensively throughout North America, and my prints, drawings, and paintings can be found in collections in several countries.
